Olympic Trial Success

Swan Hills Swimming Club had two swimmers compete in the 2012 Energy Australia Swimming Championships in Adelaide.

Holly Barratt (50m and 100m Butterfly, Backstroke and Freestyle) and Belinda Spurr (50m Butterfly) both swam exceptionally well, swimming only personal bests in every race.

Holly Barratt continually lifted her speed throughout all races and ended up competing in two finals against Australia’s best female sprinters including Emily Seebohm in the 50m Backstroke and Jessica Schipper in the 50m Butterfly, finishing 6th in the 50m Backstroke and 5th in the 50m Butterfly final.

Holly and Belinda travel from Kelmscott and Highgate respectively, to train under Swan Parks’ head coach Will Scott. Their belief in the quality of Swan Parks’ squad programs has been essential to their success, with both girls dedicating approximately 25 hours per week to training.

In between their numerous training sessions both girls dedicate time to develop Australia’s next crop of top swimmers as junior coaches in the squad program at the Swan Park Leisure Centre in Midvale, with many of their swimmers competing at the upcoming Junior State Championships at Challenge Stadium on the 31st March to 1st April.

Holly and Belinda will continue to be involved in growing the Swan Par Swim Squad throughout the coming winter season – helping to prepare more junior swimmers for their State Championships in July under the guidance of Head Coach Will Scott.
