Swan Hills has taken its first step back towards national level success at the Energy Australia Short Course National Championships held in Perth between the 12th-16th of September. Swan Hills had four swimmers compete (Holly Barratt, Georgia Marshall, Liam Smith and Belinda Spurr). Both Holly Barratt (50 Back, 100 FS, 100 BK) and Liam Smith (100 fs) qualified for finals, and Holly Barratt claimed a bronze medal in the Women’s 50 Backstroke on the final night. The club finished in the top 40 clubs in overall points (which was 10 spots higher than Olympic Trials in 2012!)
Off the back of this success Holly has been included in the Talent ID camp to be held at the AIS, whilst Liam has already headed off to the AIS as part of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Development squad. These kind of achievemens only happen when there is a supportive community helping every individual swimmers and it was great to see such enthusiastic club support with several swimmers and families (and pool supervisors) coming down to watch the event.
Well done to all the swimmers who competed and I can guarantee Swan Hills will continue to move forward with even bigger and better things to come this summer season.
