Liam Smith Rio 2016 Development Squad

Swan Hills’ swimmer Liam Smith has recently been selected as part of a group who are on track to make the Rio 2016 Paralympic games. He is one of 10 new swimmers who will join the existing members in the group for a camp in late September this year to be held at the AIS.

Liam has been working hard training for his first Open National Short Course Championships to be held in Perth between September 12-16. He was invited to attend a training session with the Paralympic Development coach and then received a letter offering him a position in the development group. The camp will offer a chance to assess the athlete’s abilities, and provide some valuable time with the latest technology assessing stroke mechanics and starts and turns.

Liam is wrapped with his achievement, but admits it’s a long way to Rio and he is going to have to stay focused on the task at hand if he wants to reach his goal of swimming for Australia.
